   I love these wireless CarPlay adapters!

   This one in particular by Ottocast is a great option for a compact and responsive solution that also adds HDMI connectivity. It’s a huge upgrade from the standard CarPlay dongles.

   I have been using this in conjunction with a FireTV stick for a while now and I’m very happy with it! It is very quick to boot up when I start my car, and the image is up within a minute every time.

   The only issues I had getting it set up was with the devices connected to it. You will have to make sure that your device being connected to it has a proper amount of power supplied to it to run. Everything else was easy, and the instructions provide a great step by step guide on how to get started.

   Definitely a 5/5 stars!

   I had high hopes for this device as a replacement for my Motorola MA1 that died after about 2 years. Unfortunately, it failed miserable.

   The main reason I chose this one is because it’s one of the few wireless Android Auto adapters that have an HDMI input. I was willing to spend the extra money for this feature even though there are lots of wireless AA adapters without it for less than half the cost of this one. Unfortunately, the HDMI input never worked – It recognizes it for a split second, but then just returns to the main AA/HDMI selection menu.

   The wireless AA functionality is not much better. The screen layout is not bad and probably even better than the Motorola. However, that is the only thing I like about it. Making selections on the screen are glitchy, transitions between screens are anything but smooth, and the interface frequently becomes completely unresponsive. When this happens it freezes all the factory radio controls and buttons. The only way to regain control of the factory radio is to unplug the adapter. Extremely frustrating.

   Another thing that annoyed me is that all the onscreen icons are labeled “Apple Car Play” with a strange logo (not even the actual Car Play logo.) I understand this may be petty, but I do not want to see things labeled “Apple Car Play” when I am using Android Auto. This just seems like lazy engineering to me.

   Maybe there other cars that this would work better on. However, I would suggest that you find another adapter if you plan on using it with Nissan’s premium infotainment system. The problems I described occurred on both a Titan (2021) and and Altima (2022).

   Unfortunately, I missed the return window by a few days and now I am stuck with it. I would be less disappointment if it wasn’t so expensive.

   I’ve been using this for a bit now, and it’s made my car’s display way more versatile. It basically turns the screen into a little smart TV, so I can run apps, watch videos, or even hook up my Steam Deck when I’m parked. Games and video streaming do work nicely, but the frame rate isn’t always the greatest and it can get a bit laggy.

   Setup was easy, just plug it in, connect, and you’re good to go. The menus run smoothly for the most part, and switching between apps feels quick. For road trips or just killing time in the car, it’s been a fun upgrade. Even with the occasional lag, it’s nice having more options than just my phone.

   Very Useful and Functional, Although Improvements Could Be Made

   I have been using the Car TV Mate Max in my 2018 Ford Escape.  It is astonishing how much functionality Ottocast was able to add in such a small device. Since the members of my household include Android and iPhone users, having a single device that does wireless Android Auto and CarPlay is a huge plus for us. The connection was seamless on both Android and Apple devices, and everything was working well:  quick boot time and smooth interface responsiveness.

   The reason why I got the “Max” model was because of the HDMI input, which does provide some value with certain restrictions. I did a test run with a Fire TV Stick and a Nintendo Switch. While the Fire Stick worked without any issues and provided crisp video and audio, the Switch needed an external power source to function properly. This is an important consideration for those looking to use portable consoles powered off batteries. This can be a useful feature for automobiles with multiple passengers who want to stream or game while traveling.

   I’d say my biggest complaint is the cumbersome method of toggling connection between devices. If one user connects, the device stubbornly insists on sticking to that phone until you manually disconnect and allow it to search for the next one. While this is not a showstopper, it certainly does not feel as smooth as I would expect at this price. Nevertheless, if your vehicle only supports

   This is a pretty cool and unique device. There are lots of different wireless android auto or Apple CarPlay adapters out there so I didn’t buy this for that reason. I got this for the ability to plug-in an HDMI device and have a display on the screen. For this use, it does work. I use this with a standalone video player that I add files to. I find it so much better option than trying to hook something up to a hotspot on a phone to stream it that way. One thing I will say is I feel like the audio and the video aren’t synced. It almost feels like the audio is off by half a second or so with no way to adjust it. If there is a setting somewhere to be able to adjust for this, this would easily be a five star item.

   This is like the fourth adapter of this type that I’ve used, and this is easily the best one. I think AutoCast is almost a brand name in this area. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone and a unique use case: my 2016 Honda CRV can use wired Apple CarPlay thanks to an unofficial firmware I found online. My wife can use her iPhone for CarPlay easily, but I was always out of luck. This adapter takes my Android Auto and turns it into wireless Apple CarPlay on my CRV. It doesn’t take long to boot up, and I’ve never had any issues. Love it.

   So this thing is pretty neat, but not as convenient as I would have hoped. It does give you instant wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, so if your car doesn’t have those, this thing is a no brainer. Unfortunately, my car does already have both those things. So what I was really buying it for was the video functionality. I just want to be able to watch Netflix while I charge my car on roadtrips. I don’t know why I can’t…. And now with this device, I totally can!…. With a few provisos. To activate the video function and turn your car’s touchscreen into a tv, you need this + a streaming device with HDMI out. Maybe your phone can do that, maybe it can’t. but I didn’t have a usb-C to HDMI cable anywhere to test mine out. What I did have was a Fire Stick and a ChromeCast. I use my ChromeCast all the time in my house, so I opted for the FireStick. Plug it in, power it up and it loads! But only the menu bar….

   So I try to tap around, but… oh no, the touch screen doesn’t work in this mode! So I go back inside, find the Firestick remote and some batteries, and go back out to my car… Now we’re in business! Welll… almost. I need to get Wifi to the Firestcik somehow. So I hotspotted from my phone and controlled the thing with a remote.

   It definitely worked – I watched an episode of South Park. But convenient? Meh. i’ll keep it in my car for real desperate times, but this dongle + fire stick + phone as hot spot + remote… It’s just a lot to keep track of to kill 30 minutes at a fast charger.

   The thing that really gets me is that the touch screen doesn’t work. BUT… again, if you need wireless carplay or android auto, this is aboslutely the device for you!

   This compact device is versatile and capable of a lot. I have a 2022 Lexus RX, and it only supports wired CarPlay; this device, however, provides wireless capabilities. It auto-boots every time I get in the car and automatically connects to my phone without me doing anything. This box allows me to do everything with the wire plugged in for CarPlay, without needing to plug into my car. It’s convenient for me because I keep my phone on a mount attached to my AC vents, and my CarPlay USB is located in my armrest console, which is annoying to run a wire to. I haven’t tested the HDMI feature yet, but it’s a cool feature to have, allowing me to plug any device via HDMI and see it on my car’s navigation screen.

    I ordered this ottocast to give my truck the ability to watch movies on road trips. This unit is small and easy to connect to the vehicle plus it loads up quick. This has given my truck wireless CarPlay which is nice. Haven’t tested the movie play ability yet but I’ve watched videos from my phone to screen and it works great. A little pricy but the functionality is worth the money and I’d recommend it.
