I use this laptop during school and short trips and part of my work day. There are timed tests/proctored tests as well. I didnt want to risk failing my courses so i bought the newer gen of the 17” . I bought this same type of laptop because i really need the 17.3”. I feel 16 inch laptops arent big enough. I found that it has some upgrades compared to the predecessor which is AMD 5 7000 series instead of the 5000 series, the color of the keyboard changed so we can now see what letter we type, there is now a camera cover, and it is conveniently faster… i cant say if its due to the fresh ram ill have to revaluate this in the future. So far it is great and works. I do like that this fits my previous plastic cover, so the dimensions went unchanged maybe in the slightest bit if that. My previous keyboard cover fit as well. And the screen is matte, gets bright enough under normal conditions, and it is non touch type.

The “Solid State Drive” makes it fast and I love the big 17 inch screen, since this will be my only PC at home. It’s still portable in case I need to take it with me. The black “maglia” pattern is nice too and helps to minimize scratches. My old Sony laptop would get scratched easily. I did not like the Windows 10 in S mode that’s on this HP PC, which does not allow installation of basic things like Chrome, unless you remove it. With S mode, you can only install things approved by Microsoft. You do have the option to take it out of S mode, which I’ve already done. I installed Blue Ray/DVD player software for only $9.99 from the Microsoft store because Windows Media Player will not play DVDs. I really love this laptop and I’m very happy with it.

Wow! My experience with my laptop just keeps getting worse. Now let me be clear that we don’t use this laptop more than ten hours per week. The top portion of the laptop with screen that folds down now binds at the hinge. This causes the screen to actually bend and flex when trying to close the laptop. It is manufactured forn very flimsy and cheap plastic. Another problem that has since cropped up is the screen malfunctioning when using MS Office 365 Excel program. During the use of a spreadsheet that was not particularly large, the screen began to create horizontal lines in varying colors across the screen along with blank patches of white and blue; rather abstract looking. At this point the program became unstable and ceased to function, requiring us to stop the program through the task manager. I have also found that pinching the sides of the bezel holding the screen causes a distortion and loss of graphics. The bezel should not be constructed as to be so flimsy. Such a disappointment. BUYER BEWARE!
I was excited about receiving this 17″ thin notebook. But the honeymoon was over right after the one-year warranty expired. The very next month; not even thirty days after the warranty expired, my screen develops a shaded band across the lower third portion of the screen. Restoration did nothing to improve this glaring failure of the screen picture. The only time it is not noticeable is when the screen is white.

The second problem cropped up about 15 days after the screen fail. The CD-ROM drive makes a severe scratching sound when a CD-ROM is inserted and begins to spin. It does not matter what CD you insert, it spins making a rythmic scratching sound.

Bottom line: HP never recovered from the debacle merger of yore; this laptop attests to that. And I haven’t seen a cheap flimsy computer/laptop such as this since the early days of cheap import computers flooding this country back in the ’80s.

In my opinion: If you thinking HP? Think again!

One of the best computers I’ve purchased in a long time.

After researching laptops for weeks prior to taking the leap, I kept coming back to this one and am very happy with the purchase. The screen is large and bright and clear. The computer is very fast, even after loading numerous software virtual machines on it. Has ease of use, long battery life and it is relatively light-weight for the size.

I like the larger screen and it performs well. I’m not impressed with the overall shell of the unit, textured and just feels like cheap plastic.

Love the touch screen, fast enough for my work.

It’s much faster than what I had, that’s for sure. Battery lasts easily 3 to 4 hours of web surfing and light video watching. I’m not usually a fan of laptop keyboards in budget friendly machines, but this one is pretty nice with decent travel and satisfying feel. I was think about taking one point off for using a solid bottom piece rather than the access doors and removable batteries of old, but meh, not that big of deal I guess. Worth the money for me.
