   I’ve been a customer of Ottocast for a number of years now. My 2019 Toyota RAV4 came with only wired CarPlay and no Android Auto, and Ottocast was one of only two vendors who had a solution for both—turning wired CarPlay into wireless CarPlay AND into wireless Android Auto. Given Toyota’s refusal to even discuss a fix, it was a welcome solution at a very reasonable price.

   It works in a clever way; it’s an embedded system which is essentially a tiny computer on a chip that takes your phone’s signal via Bluetooth and “translates” it on the fly to mimic your phone being physically plugged into the head unit.

   Since I owned the original product their technology has gotten even better…for the most part. The form factor has gotten smaller to the point where it’s a tiny dongle; for this product they even provide different USB adapters so you can enjoy the perfect fit for your car. The response time was always pretty good, but now it’s even faster.

   The one Achilles Heel of these products is switching between two phones. They did a pretty good job at this with their earlier products; you’d have the option of choosing a connection when the system started up. For some reason they got rid of that functionality and now you have to physically turn off Bluetooth on one phone before it’ll recognize the other.

   It’s a bit of a kludgey solution to what is otherwise an impressive piece of technology. I do hope they find a way to improve this in the future. But if you’re the main or only driver of your car, I’d have no reservations recommending this highly for you.

   The Ottocast Mini 2 initially delivers on its promise: plug it in once, and Wireless CarPlay launches automatically every time the car starts. Its compact, well-built design fits discreetly into the USB port, and setup took less than 10 seconds. During the first week, the connection was fast and stable—navigation apps like Apple Maps and Waze loaded without delay, and both music streaming and call quality were excellent.

   However, by the second week, the device began to overheat excessively—reaching dangerously high temperatures that could cause burns upon contact. Shortly after, it stopped working entirely and was no longer recognized by my Chevrolet OnStar factory radio system and my iphone.

   Un petit produit en USB sert à délivrer du CarPlay (ou du Android Auto) en sans fil WiFi et Bluetooth si déjà présent dans la voiture, donc en général après 2015/16.
   On va donc le connecter sur le port USB de la voiture (qui doit être nativement CarPlay ou Android) et il va générer un réseau WiFi dans l’habitacle, on devra se connecter sur le réseau WiFi généré par le produit, mais aussi s’appairer en Bluetooth (comme tout véhicule qui a déjà du CarPlay sans fil) et le système va utiliser le Bluetooth ainsi que du WiFi pour améliorer la connexion (attention ensuite à bien configurer une connexion automatique de son portable pour ne pas avoir à le reconnecter manuellement dès qu’on entre dans la voiture), il est mono bande (2,4 GHz uniquement).
   Son usage est donc simple et rapide avec un seul bouton de mise en marche, testé en CarPlay sur iPhone, la connectivité est très bonne et on retrouve son CarPlay comme en filaire. Comme il fait une taille d’une grosse clé USB, il ne prend que très peu de place, hormis le fait qu’il occupe le port USB, il reste discret, ceci étant le stick est un peu large donc peut encombrer en face avant.
   Il est en USB-A et livré avec 2 adaptateurs USB-C dont un coudé.
   Compatible avec la quasi totalité des véhicules compatibles CarPlay et Android Auto, mais il faudra bien s’assurer si le véhicule est ancien d’avoir la fonction en filaire.
   Reste au final un produit discret qui fait bien le job pour un prix (presque) raisonnable.

    This is the third car play adapter I have tried. this is the first to give me drop out free operation. The manual could give some more detail when it comes to the different modes and what they do. smooth fast connection. nice and small no cable is great.
