One of the few times I bother to review about an item:
I am using this to back up all my other 4TB+ drives I have. (about 5 or so) Using a macbook Air 2020 version with the M1 chip using Carbon Copy Cloner to backup everything. The speed is as advertised, but remember there will a limitation on the other drives. I was getting slow writes speeds because the other drives could not keep up. Copying something from my Macbook to the drive, i was able to get the 280mbps, but due to the limits on the other drives, the backups took a lot longer. I both a Sandisk Extreme Pro 4TB hard drive with 2,000mbps, so i am expecting to get the advertised speeds on the backups also.

Memory: 22TB (Not 20.5TB or something like that, first time someone is actually honest about the size)
    Format: APFS+
Size: This this is a little bit on the big size, not something I would call as portable, but it is durable.
Speed: 280mbps speed (tested and verified myself), but remember limitation due to other devices.
    Build: Extremely sturdy, really impressive
Extras: Came with 20GB type C to Type C cord and a power cord

    Update: (Encrypted drive – 12/7/2022)
After loading about 5TB on it, the speed has gone down quite a bit. Encryption does bring it down by about 30%, however, I was expecting to still be at about 150mbps; however, it is at about 90mbps. A little bit disappointed that the speed has gone down so much. I still have a few more TBs to load. Still happy with it, but the speed is quite a bit slower than I was hoping for, but that is due to the encryption.

I received the drive and connected to my MacBook Pro in to Thunderbolt port. But the drive was not detected. Only works through a USB cable only. I raised a complaint with Scandisk but no help provided. The drive stalls during video playback. So use for normal data only. Not good for video editing.

I’ve been using two of these for more than a month, and so far I haven’t had any problems at all. I’m using them for backups, so they don’t get stressed very much, but they stay cool and quiet, unlike some other drives I’ve had. The enclosure seems rugged, and even looks a bit stylish. The performance is more than adequate for what I’m doing — not as good as a SSD, of course, but better than an ordinary “USB-powered” drives.

Note that this drive is much less “portable” than some of its peers: it has an external power supply (so you need to carry that with you, *and* have a place to plug it in, if you want to use it away from your office), and the enclosure is larger and heavier than those drives, and, although the enclosure seems very robust, it might not be as drop-resistant because it isn’t padded like some of them are. This is fine with me, because my plan is to leave this on my desk and use it for backups when my computer is docked.

Housing build quality is good as expected. Power cable/brick cord is definitely fairly stiff so I worry about long term durability if this drive is moved around. I’ve been using this drive for photo storage, no complains on speed/usability on my MBP16, sure it’s not as fast as SSD but it’s not detrimental to workflow. As other reviews mention, a large amount of advertised space is lost through the formatting on this drive. Comes with power supply and USB-C cable. I’d definitely purchase this drive again if looking for a non-redundant directly attached large capacity storage device.

I rarely write product reviews. But this product is so bad I feel compelled to warn buyers. Beware of this product. It has been nothing but problems. I do not know how it interacts with windows, but it does NOT work well with Mac at all. Bottom line: Do not buy this SanDisk. Go for the WD My Desk.

I have had it for a year, and it constantly disconnects for no reason. Randomly, just disappears. Restart it, it usually shows up again. I store all our photos on this. I have been constantly having to restore the Photos library after it disconnects. Well, that is until two days ago, when the Photos library just disappeared. Gone. 20,000 photos gone. I was able to find the file in Time Machine and restore it to this drive. Seemed like it was all fixed. And then…poof. This entire drive is now empty. It cant be repaired in disk utility. Thankfully I was able to pull the old file from time machine and add to another external drive. Hopefully I have no more issues. But i will not use this drive ever again.

I have been using WD My Desk external drives for 15 years. I have NEVER had an issue with them, at all. I have purchased 7 over the years as I have needed more and more storage. Every one has worked perfectly. I decided to try this SanDisk because it is the “professional” model. What a joke. It’s a piece of garbage. If you need an external drive for Mac, get a WD My Desk. Do NOT buy this SanDisk

I had an 8tb wd black game drive which was quite and fast. It just didn’t have the memory I needed. Got this one and yes it works but it literally sounds like dial up from the early 2000s when it’s loading up. Also noticed for 7200rpm it’s pretty slow compared to the 7200 rpm wd I had. Of you don’t mind the noise or a slight delay this is still a really good drive. We’ll built as well. Just make sure you format when you get it. My windows 10 wouldn’t detect it till I did.

This is a great external drive! It arrived on time and in good shape. I’m using it as an encrypted Time Machine backup drive and it’s doing the job very well. I would purchase it again if the need arose for a second one.
