   I bought a new Mac-Mini, invested more in the cores, processor and memory than storage knowing this was available. Glad I bought it, doesn’t exactly match the new Mini but works great so far.

   I should’ve trusted the more recent negative reviews. I thought I finally found the perfect 3.5″ hard drive enclosure for the M2 Mac Mini. However, I didn’t realize that this product is actually quite old. It may match one of the previous Intel Mac Mini models, but definitely not the new ones.

   Good:
   * The hub is functional and includes a fairly quiet cooling fan, which is important for drive health.
   * Aside from the plastic top, the build materials are good quality.

   Not So Good:
   * Compared to the M2 Mac Mini, it’s a little too wide, the silver color is off (way too shiny with specks of glitter?), and the main light just doesn’t match at all. See attached image with Mac Mini and Satechi hub for comparison. If you’re really far away, then I suppose it’s not that big a deal, but the Mini Stack is clearly the outlier of the three.
   * Note: To be fair, the Satechi hub isn’t a perfect match either, but the color is more matte, and the dimensions and power light pair better with the Mac Mini. So, the differences aren’t nearly as jarring compared to the Mini Stack.

   Bottom line, if the aesthetics don’t match the current Mac Mini, then there’s no point in paying a premium price for this product currently. There are a ton of options for external hard drive enclosures with updated functionality / chipsets (including some from OWC). It’s a real shame, though, because this is the only 3.5″ enclosure (that I could find) that even sort of matches the Mac Mini. I really wish they would update the design.

   I had purchased from OWC in the past and they come highly recommended. The Ministack was essentially plug and play with a simple set of installation instructions and step by step software included.

   The unit is very solid feeling and I like having a cooling fan for the drive. As described it is the same size as the actual Mac Mini and they make a very clean little stack on the desktop.

   If I had one criticism, it’s the blue Led “on” indicator is too large and bright. But that’s just being picky.

   First of all, it does NOT match the Mac mini perfectly: the silver finish is different, and the front light is huge in comparison with the Mac mini, also the heights are way different.
   The biggest problem though is that the disk disconnects almost every time the Mac mini goes to sleep no matter what energy saver settings you have. This problem is way more than annoying considering that I discovered time machine was on hold for more than 10 days awaiting for the OWC disk to mount. Totally unacceptable. Long story short, after I spent many hours researching the root of the problem I found it to be due to the chipset of the OWC drive so there is no fix for it.

   Well built, quality materials, good ventilation. If you’re buying this in Europe be advised you need to source the correct plug attachment, I had a few lying around the house from older devices. Very happy with my purchase.

    Cool looking drive enclosure that matches the aesthetic of my Mac. This is also one of the few enclosures that has a fan (big drives run warm). Installing a drive takes less than 5 minutes. Note that if your Mac only has USB C, you’ll need an adapter to connect the drive.
